Arnis Demonstration at Integra Life Sciences: Celebrating Culture During AAPI Heritage Month
During Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month in 2023, our team had the honor of presenting a special martial arts demonstration for the team at Integra Life Sciences. The event was not only an opportunity to showcase the art and discipline of martial arts, but also a meaningful moment to celebrate the cultural traditions and history that many martial arts systems represent. May is recognized as AAPI Heritage Month, a time dedicated to honoring the cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and we were proud to showcase this beautiful Filipino Martial Art in front of a great audience.
What made this event particularly unique was its global reach. While the demonstration was performed live at the Integra office in Princeton, it was simultaneously broadcast to multiple company locations around the world. Colleagues from different sites were able to tune in, watch the performance, and participate in the experience together, creating a shared moment of cultural appreciation across continents.

Our team demonstrated a variety of techniques and training methods that reflect the depth and diversity of martial arts practice. Martial arts have long served not only as systems of combat or self-defense, but also as vehicles for cultural expression, discipline, and personal development. Presenting these traditions during AAPI Heritage Month helped highlight their historical roots and the values they carry.
The reception from the Integra audience was incredibly warm and engaging. From the moment the demonstration began, viewers showed genuine interest and enthusiasm. Following the performance, the audience participated in a lively discussion session, asking thoughtful questions about the techniques, training methods, history, and cultural context of the arts demonstrated.
What stood out most was how eager many attendees were to continue the conversation after the formal portion of the event ended. Participants stayed to speak with members of the demonstration team, asking further questions and sharing their own curiosity about Filipino martial arts and its traditions. These conversations turned the event into more than just a performance—it became an exchange of ideas and experiences.
Events like this demonstrate the power of martial arts to connect people across cultures and distances, in addition to being a practical practice. Whether performed in a dojo, on a stage, or broadcast across the globe, martial arts continue to serve as a bridge between communities, offering insight into traditions that have been passed down for generations.
We are grateful to Integra for the opportunity to share this experience and to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month together with such an enthusiastic and welcoming audience.
